Race Equipment

The right race equipment can have a significant impact on the performance of a race car. Depending on the type of racing, modifications to the drive train, suspension, engine and tires can dramatically alter the characteristics of the car. Even a slight change to one or more systems can make the car drive completely different.

Different race situations require different race equipment. Rally racing, for instance, is performed on a variety of surfaces which require a much more flexible set-up. Heavy duty suspension, heavily treaded tires and a small but powerful engine make the rally car adaptable to nearly any surface, paved or dirt.

Track racing, on the other hand, requires a much different set-up. Race equipment for these cars include wide, smooth tires (commonly called “slicks”), a stiff suspension system (these cars generally sit just inches from the pavement), and a large, high-output engine are the staple of stock and formula one cars. The suspension systems for these cars are often adjusted depending on the type of track; oval or street
